Pi Research is a world-wide leader in automotive electronics. Their systems are found in Formula 1, as well as most of the CART Champ cars and all of the Formula Atlantics are delivered with Pi systems as standard equipment. With this vast experience at the top levels of motorsport, Pi Research is able to bring professional-quality products & support to the Club Motorsports marketplace. They produce a line of products ranging from systems small enough to be fitted to karts, to systems with $3500 laser ride-height sensors. Heres an overview of their products:
X Sport The X Sport is the latest club-level dash. It's designed to fit inside of 10" or larger steering wheel. It's stylish design offers integral buttons used for configuration, to change the information that is displayed, and to acknowledge alarms. The dash can function in a stand alone mode, supporting one pressure and two temperature channels, or it can be connected to an ECU data stream. Optional wheel speed sensors and beacon receivers will allow the dash to display minimum and maximum speeds and lap times. X Sport Kit, (includes temp, pressure and wheelspeed sensors along with 10-channel beacon receiver), $1920 The dash can also be connected as the display for a Pi Research data logger such as the Compact Logger, Delta Clubman or Delta Lite products. Compact Logger The Compact logger can log engine data from an ECU or X-Sport plus wheel speed and lap times. It has a built-in G sensor and comes with a data flash card. Also included are a flash card reader for PC, mounting kit and Club Expert Windows software. Compact Logger System $1,325.
Delta Clubman Delta Clubman is a very capable 6-channel racing data logger designed for Club Motorsport applications. It provides 2Mb of logging memory, 6 analog channels and inputs for RPM, lap timing beacon and 1 wheelspeed. Inline g, lateral g, logger box temperature and battery voltage are monitored internally. Analogue channels may be calibrated for use with displacement, temperature or pressure sensors, logged at rates up to 50Hz. Two of the channels may also be configured for use with thermocouple devices.
The Delta Clubman kit includes the new X Sport dash, fully terminated 3m System and Analog looms, USB download loom, setup and analysis software, lap timing beacon receiver and wheelspeed sensor. Delta Clubman w/X Sport dash kit, $3,810 Delta Lite This configurable data logger features USB for data transfer (2MB of memory can be transferred in a few seconds). In addition to built-in lateral and inline G sensors, it includes 4 digital inputs (2 wheelspeed, 1 engine speed, 1 beacon), 10 analog channels and 4MB of memory. A 24-channel expansion box is also available. These channels can be fitted with practically any sensor to measure engine parameters (temperatures, pressures), driver inputs (steering, throttle, brake pressure), and suspension/aerodynamic loads(shock sensors, ride height sensors, pressure sensors). A fast 500hz sampling rate, and 2 megabytes of memory (expandable to 8 megabytes) means you can record practically any data of interest. The Delta Light can be used with any of the Pi dashes (Mini Dash, X Sport, or even a System 2 dash, or choose from the Pro line, including the Satellite Steering Wheel). The software allows custom configuration of what is displayed. The software includes Pi's Logger Manager and Club Expert Windows. Delta Lite Kit (C410) $4425 Options 10 Channel Transmitter(01F-152033) $485 C-Dash (01K-163058) $1305 Mini Dash (01K-163055) $470 ToolBox Lite Software $1800 Upgrade to Delta (8MB) $4300 Delta Expansion (24 Channel), $5300
System 2 kit The integrated dash/logger System 2 is also still available. This system combines both display and logging into a single compact unit in a small package suitable for more formula or sports racers. The system includes a built-in G sensor, and includes sensors for wheelspeed, engine speed, oil temperature /pressure , water temperature and fuel pressure. There are two user-channels which can be configured with sensors for steering and throttle (typically), but weve also fitted EGT sensors. The dash is backlit for excellent visibility in all lighting conditions, and includes a settable redline/shift light. The dash will display the previous lap time, along with the minimum corner speed and maximum straightline speed. This feedback while driving is very useful for determining if a change in driving line or technique results in increased speed. Download is via a serial connection, and the Club Expert Windows software is provided. System 2 Kit $4085 Option 10 Channel Transmitter(01F-152033) $485
System 1 kit System 1 is a system originally designed for karting, but has been expanded so that it can be used for a driver development system. The basic logger is a twelve channel logger, and includes sensors for engine speed, wheel speed, lateral Gs battery voltage and a beacon receiver. It can be combined with either a Mini dash to display lap times and the value of some channels, or used with a C-Dash to display more information simultaneously. The system comes with 512k memory that will record 30-60 minutes depending upon number of channels logged and sampling rates. Includes Pis Club Expert Windows software for both configuration and downloading/analysis of the data. Data is typically downloaded in less than a minute using a serial cable attached to the PC. System 1 Car Kit (C101) $3780 System 1 options 10 Channel Transmitter(01F-152033) $390 Mini Dash (30K-162109) $345 C-Dash (U002) $1465
