Cosworth Electronics (formerly Pi Research) is a world-wide leader in automotive electronics. Their systems are found in Formula 1, as well as most of the CART Champ cars and all of the Formula Atlantics are delivered with Pi systems as standard equipment. With this vast experience at the top levels of motorsport, Pi Research is able to bring professional-quality products & support to the Club Motorsports marketplace. They produce a line of products ranging from systems small enough to be fitted to karts, to systems with $3500 laser ride-height sensors.
Building on the success of the cost effective, dual colour, backlit Omega D4 LCD display which has proven globally successful across multiple series, Cosworth is excited to add to its product portfolio the new Intelligent Color Display (ICD), a brand new high performance, configurable, full colour 6.2″ TFT display integrating a fully featured Omega data logger and control platform with a powerful dual core 1GHz microprocessor and integrated graphics processor.
Built on Cosworth’s flagship Sigma Operating System and integrating a dedicated graphic processor and the latest Omega architecture, this is a powerful full color display, logger and control solution all in one enabling users in all series to benefit from usable, advanced logging and control capabilities.
The ICD features super bright, configurable tri-color LED arrays – multi-purpose and fully configurable for use as alarms, shift lights, driver aids, together with an in-built LDR for auto LED and screen brightness control.
The ICD can be integrated as a central part of a vehicle system. The unit provides plenty of flexible and configurable features such as an in-built Ethernet hub, support of 12V or 24V systems, programmable excitations, a LIN port and multiple serial and CAN ports, up to 20 analogue channels, 10 switch inputs and 6 digital inputs.
The 5 port Ethernet hub provides for improved on car systems connectivity – devices can be daisy chained and connected to with a single on-car connection point – further simplifying looms.
Cosworth’s proven driver aid known as ‘QMode’ (Qualifying Mode) is available in mutiple forms. An auto learn feature automatically generates a set number of split points, ‘Semi-Auto’ allows the user load a .pds dataset and pre-select the fastest lap. ‘Manual’ mode allows the user to individually configure sectors within Toolbox analysis software based on a ‘hot lap’ for export as ‘QMode file’ to provide specific delta lap-time splits to improve lap-time performance, consistency in the an endurance environment or as a driver training aid.
The ICD is configured using ‘Toolset’ software means the user now only has one piece of software for dash, logging, control and Cosworth’s IPS32 power management module. Data is analysed in Toolbox, an industry standard analysis tool packed with features, and used across Cosworth’s logger and control system range.
The X Sport uses 7-segment LED displays which can be used to display values directly from sensors (standalone mode), from a Pi Data logger or an ECU data stream. In standalone mode, sensor maximum and minimum values (telltales) and lap times are available in the dash when the outing comes to an end.
When connected to a PC the telltale and lap time data, in the form of an Outing Report, an be offloaded and displayed using the Outing Report Manager software. The Outing Report data is sent to the PC every five seconds. There is no user configuration for this junction and if a channel is not used, it will still be sent. The telltale and lap time data are available until the dash is powered cycled or the next outing starts.
The X Sport has a number of individual bright LEDs which are used as alarms and gear change lights. The X Sport is controlled by two integral buttons, which are used to change pages, set parameters, and acknowledge alarms. The X Sport can be installed in a 10 inch or larger steering wheel, or into a dash panel. A bracket for mounting the X Sport in a steering wheel is available.
The Omega D4 Features:
- Configurable Pages: Configure pit pages to display temperatures and pressures during warm-up, race pages to show speed, rpm and lap-time. Specify when to change between the two yourself.
- Dual color backlight: Turn the backlight red to ensure that alarms are visible to the driver and are never missed!
- Message centre: Configure and display “sensible” and clear alarm messages to to the driver, i.e. “Low Oil Pressure”.
- Qualifying Mode (QM): Live display of performance against best lap time.
- On board maths: Create maths channels for real-time calculations on the box.
- GPS: Support for GPS speed and beacons.
- Video: Support for Pi VIDS2 (Video Indexed Data System)
- Comms: 2x CAN, 2x RS232 and 1x Ethernet communication ports.
- Configurable logging table and rates: Upgrade your D4 dash to logging functionality when needed.
The D4 dash logger platform can be upgraded to various levels of data logging functionality including on-boards maths, increased I/O, memory and logging rates with PRO, PLUS & ULTRA feature capability upgrade packs. Also optional orange LED lighting is available in an upgrade kit.
