But Data is our business. Founded in 2001 by David and Ellen Ferguson, they began selling data acquisition systems and parts, with Ellen working full time, and David helping nights and weekends with tech support and wiring projects. By 2007 it was clear the business was about to outgrow the home office/shop in Sunnyvale. They began planning the move to Paso Robles and the construction of a building to house the business. After careers in the high-tech world of Silicon Valley, David and Ellen moved the business to the Central Coast of California in a facility that provided a great place to work on customer projects.
In June of 2026 David and Ellen sold the business to Justin Jang, a professional motorsports engineer whose career they helped launch in 2004. David and Ellen continue to be involved in motorsports with their two SCCA Prototype 2 cars: David’s Mazda-powered Van Diemen and Ellen’s Suzuki powered Stohr WF-1.
Justin graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a BSME in 2005 and went on to work for various motorsports companies and teams including OptimumG, Turner Motorsports, Black Swan Racing, Honda Performance Development, Gainsco Racing, CarBahn, Bryan Herta Autosport/Hyundai, and Wright Motorsports. He also is active in the SAE student competition community as a design judge, editor at designjudges.com and as an industry professional in So Cal SAE events. Away from the track he enjoys spending time outdoors on the Central Coast of California or traveling with his wife Gabrielle.
