AiM Sports has large number of products suitable for motorsports that offer high-level of capabilities at amazing prices along with free software updates from their website.
Solo 2
The Solo 2 is an affordable GPS-based lap timer and performance monitor. Installation is easy in any car with it’s built-in battery (or it can be attached to a 12V accessory plug), and built-in GPS antenna so there is no wiring that has to be done. The two magnets on the back of the Solo 2 allow quick attachment to the included bracket, and there are optional mounts including a suction cup kit, roll bar kit and U-bolt kit for cars and two different handle bar mounts for dirt bikes and quads.
The Solo 2 has a built-in WiFi connection for system configuration and downloading data, so you don’t have to worry about losing your communication cable. The Solo 2 uses the same Race Studio 3 software for configuration and data analysis that AiM’s other data loggers use. Other standard features include eight different back lite colors, four pages (lap time and predictive lap time, plus two user configurable pages) and 10 RGB LED’s that can be programmed to show whether your current lap time is improving (green) or declining (red) compared to your fastest lap of the session. Take advantage of AiM’s GPS data base containing the start/finish coordinates of more than 2,000 tracks world-wide. The Solo 2 will automatically start timing you when you cross the start/finish line! And it won’t just time laps, but can show you predicted lap time (based on your best lap so far in the session), and keep track of your fastest lap. You can review your lap times right on the display, or download the data to your computer for further analysis.
The Solo 2 DL has the same features as the Solo 2, but with the added ability to capture information from three different sources: CAN or Serial Engine Control Unit (ECU), OBDII port or RPM (square wave tach output) or ignition coil trigger (negative side of coil). The Solo 2 DL also has a CAN expansion port for the addition of a SmartyCam GP HD/ SmartyCam HD video systems or LCU-One Wideband Lambda module. The 10 RGB LED’s can be configured for use as shift lights or predictive lap time indicators.

SmartyCam HD
Why go on track with a generic action-camera? SmartyCam HD has been designed for motorsports, by people exactly like you, who have spent their life on the track. SmartyCam HD was designed with a single purpose: providing great videos that include all the technical information that will help you improve your performance. All this comes in the most robust and reliable system ever.
SmartyCam HD automatically overlays on videos all the data you need: speed, RPM, lap number, gear shifts and much more. Simply choose the data and the graphic layout you prefer in the huge selection of overlays available.
Engine rumble causes vibrations, which are not a good thing for video recording.
Never again will you experience that seasick “wave effect” you get when watching videos recorded by a generic camera, when the car rolls at 7000 RPM.
SmartyCam HD has been designed for that environment and for those vibrations. “Wave effect” is just a memory.
A lens specifically designed for motorsports must be robust, must be able to work when the engine rolls 100 times per second, and have good resolution and brightness.
But above all a lens designed for motorsports must reduce distortion, which is a typical problem of lenses used by generic action-cameras: objects placed at ten meters’ distance look very far, making it impossible to accurately determine whether the track is straight or curved.
SmartyCam HD telecentric lens with six elements reduces distortion to the minimum and will withstand track vibrations for years.
On-board cameras are to be installed inside the car. Where should the display be placed to check the correct position of the camera?
The SmartyCam HD 128×128 pixel TFT color display is on the front, not on rear – where general cameras place the viewfinder.
HD cameras competition is focused on the highest pixel number. The result is that their video files are far too large, taking too much memory.
SmartyCam HD videos have the same quality as other HD cameras but their files are smaller because the H264 compression system parameters have been optimized to a perfect balance between video quality and file size.
You can choose among three video file quality levels: one-hour recording takes 4GB (high quality), 2GB (normal) or 1,5GB (low).
Files are stored on SD cards: with current SD cards reaching 128GB capacity, you can record more than 30 hours of high-quality videos without changing the card.
* High quality movies
Frail things have a bad time on track.
An on-board camera designed for motorsports must guarantee great resistance against the extreme working conditions typical of track racing and against the most adverse weather, such as: strong and prolonged vibrations, storms, continuous rain, and extreme high and low temperatures.
That is why SmartyCam HD is made in machinery molded aluminum, just like many competition car parts.
Its small size (87x63x48mm) and light weight (just 250g) make SmartyCam HD easy to install inside your car or on your bike.

The Rev 2.2 improvements include a coax cable between the DVR controller and the bullet camera which means more protection from electromagnetic noise, direct CAN ECU connection (no need for an external ECU Bridge), compatibility with the GPS08 module (no more SmartyCam serial GPS antenna) and integrated CAN expansion (on board Data Hub).
